The graduate program in Probability and Statistics from the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo (USP) is now open for applications for Master’s, Doctorate, and Direct Doctorate programs for admission in the first or second semester of 2025.
The registrations can be submitted from October 7th to November 10th, and more details about the selection process, including the link to the application form and the required documents for submission, can be found on the official page of the graduate program.
The program offers 25 vacancies for the Master’s level and 20 for the Doctorate, with four positions reserved for self-proclaimed black, mixed, or Indigenous candidates or candidates with severe physical disabilities. Upon application, candidates can express their interest in competing for scholarships from CAPES and CNPq.
For those interested, a meeting will be held on October 30th at 10 AM to clarify the questions about the program. The reunion will be held online. To obtain the access link, contact posmae@ime.usp.br.
About the Graduate Program in Probability and Statistics at IME-USP
The Master’s and Doctoral programs have an extensive curriculum structure, featuring courses in probability theory and statistics as well as specific courses that reflect the research areas developed by the faculty. On average, about 12 courses are offered each semester, including some in the Summer Program at IME-USP. The students also have access to an intensive schedule of conferences and seminars organized by the research groups in the Department of Statistics.
Currently, the program consists of three branches of research: Probability, Statistics, and Data Science, which are subdivided into several lines and are available on the program webpage.
The faculty is composed of specialists in several fields of Probability and Statistics, including modeling of complex and multidimensional systems, biostatistics, statistical learning (both machine and statistical learning), risk analysis, survival analysis, time series, complexity and critical phenomena in neurobiology, particle systems, fundamentals of probability and statistics, asymptotic methods, and regression models.
The program is supported by CAPES and CNPq, which regularly offer scholarships for students with complete dedication and exceptional performance. Additionally, prospective candidates can collaborate with their advisors to submit projects for master’s and doctoral scholarships to FAPESP, expanding funding opportunities. The program also encourages and financially supports students’ participation in scientific events in Brazil and abroad.
