IME-USP promotes the 2nd Semana da Pura with debates, minicourses and open activities to the public

Between June 4 and 6, 2025, the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo (IME-USP) holds the second edition of “Semana da Pura”, an event idealized by undergraduate students aiming to bring together the academic community and others interested in pure mathematics, in its multiple manifestations.

The schedule brings lectures, minicourses, thematic tables, poster sessions, and a guided exposition, focusing on specific content in the area and reflections on academic training and practice in mathematics. The event, in person, happens at the Jacy Monteiro and Antonio Gilioli Halls. The activities are free and open to the public.

The schedule features lectures by names such as Hugo Mariano, Luan Ferreira, Paulo Cordaro, Eduardo Longa, Gilson Reis, Claudio Possani, Olivier Martin, Yulia Petrova, Yoshiharu Kohayakawa e Ruy Exel. The minicourses will be ministered at the Jacy Monteiro and Antonio Gilioli Halls and will approach themes such as logic, set theory, mathematics epistemology, extremal graph theory, and Lorentzian geometry.

Besides the exhibition activities, the event includes thematic tables that will propose discussions about the academic and professional trajectory, in addition to a film debate session with the movie “On the Order of the Invented” (in the original, Da ordem do inventado) and a guided visit to the Matemateca.

More details about the complete schedule and the registration form are available on the event’s official website.
