IME-USP

Admissions – Mathematics Graduate Program

General Instructions

Entries in the Post-Graduation Program in Mathematics at IME-USP occur two times a year: until April to start in August of the same year, or until September to start in March next year.

However, we encourage candidates to enroll preferably in March. The reason for this is that, in general, the most basic subjects of the MA/PhD are offered in the first semester.

All details and requisites to postulate appear at admission process (2018).

We give below a summary of the inscription process, recalling that the complete procedure is listed at the above address.

In general, the enrollment analysis will take into account:

1. If the Master’s candidate (respectively, PhD) attended subjects of Bachelor (respectively, MSc) in Mathematics in Brazilian institutions well reputed by CAPES or well-known foreign institutions;

2. If the candidate has taken summer courses in Brazilian (CAPES concept with 5, 6, 7) or renowned foreign institutions. In particular, the performance in the courses MAT5719-Calculus and Geometry in Rn-MAT4302 Topics in Linear Algebra, as well as the Summer Program at IME-USP, may also be considered for the classification for an institutional scholarship;

3. the candidate’s academic performance (eg, course notes, articles, preprints, articles in progress, work presentations). In particular, subjects without grading may not be taken into account;

4. If letters of recommendation were given by doctors in Mathematics with academic production (see Lattes, MathSciNet, Zentralblatt).

Finally, remember that IME-USP has several Postgraduate programs and we suggest the candidate to check which of them is better suited to their profile.

Edital GRE
