Prof. Dr. Alan Mitchell Durham

Alan Mitchell Durham received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of São Paulo (1983), a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of São Paulo (1987), and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (1997). He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo and a member of the Brazilian Association for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (AB3C), where he served as President in 2017 and 2018.
He has extensive experience in Computer Science, particularly in Computer Systems Architecture, and his research focuses primarily on bioinformatics, molecular biology, automated sequence analysis, gene prediction, and computational frameworks. In 2022, he was awarded the Scientific Merit Medal by AB3C. His current work focuses on the computational characterization of promoter regions in eukaryotic genes.
Prof. Dr. Renata Wassermann

Renata Wassermann holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of São Paulo (1991), a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of São Paulo (1995), a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Amsterdam (1999), and a Livre-Docência (Habilitation) degree from the University of São Paulo (2005).
She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science of the University of São Paulo (IME-USP). Her research area is Artificial Intelligence, with a particular focus on Logic and Knowledge Representation.
