  • Title: Resolvent trace asymptotics on singular spaces
  • Speaker: prof. Luiz Hartmann (UFSCar)
  • Abstract:  In his seminal work ``Spectral Geometry of Singular Riemannian Spaces'', Jeff  Cheeger started an influential program on spectral analysis on stratified spaces with singular Riemannian metrics. The ultimate goal of the program is
to establish resolvent trace asymptotics in this very general setting. We propose to discuss the development of Cheeger's program until the recent days

  • Title: Spin(7)-instantons e fibrados de Higgs
  • Speaker: Pedro Manfrim

  • Title: Log-term of the Bergman kernel and Szegö kernel of the disc bundle over polarised manifold
  • Speaker:prof.  Roberto Mossa (USP)
  • Abstract:  In this seminar we present the results on the vanishing of the log-term on the Fefferman expansion of the Bergmann kernel of the disc bundle over a homogeneous Kahler manifold obtained on Ann. Global Anal. Geom. (2017) in collaboration with A. Loi and F. Zuddas. As well as some new results on the vanishing of the log term of the Szegö kernel of the corresponding unit circle bundle. These results are related to the classical Ramadanov conjecture and are inspired by the work of Z. Lu and G. Tian (Duke Math. J. 125:351-387, 2004). In particular this results confirm the conjecture of Lu according to which the coefficients a_k of the Tian-Yau-Zelditch expansion of the Kempf distortion function, vanish for k > n if and only if the log-term of the Szegö kernel vanishes.

  • Speaker: Eduardo Longa

  • Speaker: Prof. Thiago Drummond (UFRJ)

  • Title:  Leaf topology of minimal foliations on 3-manifolds
  • Speaker: Prof. Carlos Menino Coton
  • Abstract: In this talk, we show examples of minimal hyperbolic foliations on closed 3-manifolds with a leaf homeomorphic to any closed surface puntured along a finite set (for instance a puntured torus). Moreover, we show examples of minimal foliations whose generic leaf is a hyperbolic plane but there is some leaf with infinite genus. Both examples are realized on Seifert manifolds and the transverse regularity of the foliation is just C^1. These exemples provide interesting corollaries and constitute a family of counterexamples to some conjectures in the area.

Guillemin--Sternberg, stating that the image of the momentum map of an
Hamiltonian torus action is a convex polytope, we explain a recent
generalization to locally conformally symplectic geometry obtained in

  • Title:  Split Ricci-parallel connections on SL groups
  • Speaker: Andrzej Derdzinski
  • Abstract: The set E of Levi-Civita connections of left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian Einstein metrics on a given semisimple Lie group G always includes D, the Levi-Civita connection of the Killing form. When G is noncompact, a still-open 1975 conjecture of Dmitry Alekseevsky, if true, would imply that such left-invariant Einstein metrics on G are all indefinite. For the groups of the SL series, we explicitly describe several distinguished connected components of E. This extends an earlier result, joint with Swiatoslaw R. Gal, of the component of E which contains D. The emerging picture is consistent with Alekseevsky’s conjecture. The approach focuses on connections rather than metrics, which has the advantage of simultaneously generalizing and simplifying the algebraic aspect of the question.

  • Title: Cone structures and Finsler spacetimes
  • Speaker: Prof. Miguel Angel Javaloyes
  • Abstract: We will introduce the notions of cone structures and Finsler spacetimes,
establishing an explicit relation between both concepts and providing a good amount of examples.
Indeed, we will give a characterization of all the possible Lorentz-Finsler metrics under some regularity conditions.
Finally, we will explore some basic properties of Finsler spacetimes, which include maximizing properties of geodesics and basic results on Causality.

  • Title: Uma re-definiçao do conceito de buraco negro usando fronteiras causais.
  • Speaker: Dr. Jonatan Herrera

  • Title: On isoparametric surfaces in homogeneous 3-spaces
  • Speaker: Prof. Miguel Vazquez
  • Abstract: A hypersurface of a Riemannian manifold is called isoparametric if it and its nearby equidistant hypersurfaces have constant mean curvature. In spaces of constant curvature, Cartan proved that a hypersurface is isoparametric
if and only if has constant principal curvatures. However, this characterization does not necessarily hold in spaces of nonconstant curvature. In this talk I will present a recent joint work with José Miguel Manzano (ICMAT-CSIC, Madrid)
where we initiated the study of isoparametric surfaces and surfaces with constant principal curvatures in homogenous 3-spaces, obtaining their classification in the homogeneous 3-spaces with 4-dimensional isometry group.

  • Speaker: Dr. Ricardo Mendes
  • Abstract: (Joint with C. Gorodski, C. Lange, A. Lytchak) We show the existence of C>0 such that, for all n>1 and every closed non-transitive subgroup G of O(n+1), the diameter of the quotient of the unit sphere S^n by G is larger than C. The novelty is that C is independent of the dimension n. The classification of finite simple
groups is used in the proof.

  • Speaker: Prof. Leonardo Biliotti
  • Abstract: in this seminar we discuss abelian convexity theorem. Convexity along an orbit is established in a very general setting using Kempf-Ness functions. This is applied to give short proofs of the Atiyah-Guillemin-Sternberg theorem and of abelian convexity for the gradient map in the case of a real analytic submanifold of complex projective space. Finally we give an application to the action on the probability measures. This is a joint work with Alessandro Ghigi that

  • Title: Extending a diffeomorphism finiteness theorem to dimension 4.
  • Speaker: Prof. Curtis Pro (California State University, Stanislaus)
  • Abstract: In the early 90s, Grove, Petersen, and Wu, and independently Perelman, showed in dimensions different than 4,
the conclusion of Cheeger's Finiteness Theorem still holds without the assumption of an upper curvature bound.
    Namely, given numbers $k\in\mathbb R, v, D>0$, if $n\neq 4$, there are at most finitely many differentiable structures on the class of $n$-manifolds $M$ that support metrics with $\sec M\geq k, \mathrm{vol}\,M\geq v,$ and $\mathrm{diam}\,M\leq D.$
In this talk, I'll present current joint work with Fred Wilhelm that shows, with a new approach, the same is also true in dimension 4.

  • Title:  A Weitzenboeck viewpoint on sectional curvature and applications
  • Speaker: Prof. Renato G. Bettiol
  • Abstract:  In this talk, I will describe a new algebraic characterization of
sectional curvature bounds that only involves curvature terms in the
Weitzenb\"ock formulae for symmetric tensors. This characterization is
further clarified by means of a symmetric analogue of the
Kulkarni-Nomizu product, which renders it computationally amenable.
Furthermore, a related application of the Bochner technique to closed
4-manifolds with indefinite intersection form and positive or
nonnegative sectional curvature will be discussed, yielding some new
insight about the Hopf Conjecture. This is based on joint work with R.

  • Title: A classification of semistable Higgs bundles on Calabi-Yau manifolds
  • Speaker: Valeriano Lanza
  • Abstract: In a recent work by Biswas, Bruzzo, Graña Otero and Lo Giudice it is shown that on a simply connected Calabi-Yau manifold there is no polystable Higgs bundle with nontrivial Higgs field. The same is not true for semistable Higgs bundles, as examples can be easily provided. Nevertheless, Higgs fields for semistable Higgs bundles on Calabi-Yau
manifolds are strongly constrained. The goal of this talk is to discuss the situation for bundles of low rank,
for which we are able to provide a complete classification of possible Higgs fields. Furthermore, we provide also an application to a conjecture about a particular class of semistable Higgs bundles (the so-called curve
semistable ones), which is proved for K3 and related surfaces.

  • Title: Robust index bounds for minimal hypersurfaces in compact symmetric spaces and isoparametric submanifolds
  • Speaker: Dr Ricardo Mendes (Universitaet zu  Koeln)
  • Abstract: (joint work with C. Gorodski and M. Radeschi)
It has been conjectured by Marques-Neves-Schoen that, for every compact Riemannian manifold (M,g) with positive Ricci curvature, there exists a positive constant C such that every closed minimal hypersurface of M has Morse index bounded below by C times its first Betti number. This conjecture has been verified for the spheres by Savo, for every compact rank
one symmetric space by Ambrozio-Carlotto-Sharp, and for every compact symmetric space (with the index replaced with index plus nullity) by Mendes-Radeschi. In the present work we expand this list of examples to infinitely many isoparametric hypersurfaces of spheres and their focal manifolds. We also show that, for all our new examples, as well as many of the
previously known examples (including the spheres), such an index bound remains valid after any small deformation of the ambient metric g.
