I was the President of the University's Central Comission on Informatics, from 1994 to 1998.

I am coordinating an interdisciplinary Group of
Studies of Information and Communication at the
Institute for Advanced Studies of the University.

I am a member of FAPESP's Coordinating Comission of the
TIDIA (Tecnologia da Informação no Desenvolvimento da Internet Avançada) Program,
where I am the Scientific Coordinator of the
Virtual Incubator of Digital Contents Project .

Since 2002 I am working, on and off, on an innovative information storage system
which can be used as an "intelligent" backup of filesystems.
The system is called BRF (Backup, Remember, and Forget).
A GPL prototype can be found here.
The best description of the system to date is found in the Course Conclusion Paper, UFBA, 2006,
of Tássia Camões Araújo.
