ICM 2018 Satellite Conference:

Modern Trends in Differential Geometry

July 23-27, 2018

Institute of Mathematics and Statistics University of São Paulo

Special Issue of SPJM: An Homage to Manfredo P. do Carmo

A refereed special issue of the São Paulo J Math Sci containing selected works from the conference will be published. All speakers and participants are invited to submit a contribution. This can be in the form of an original research article or an expository ("survey") paper. An article written by F. Morgan and P. Pansu based on the list of problems submitted and discussed during the conference is already in preparation and will be included in the issue.

As an homage of São Paulo to the doyen of Differential Geometry in Brazil, we have decided to dedicate the issue to the memory of Manfredo Perdigão do Carmo (1928-2018). Student of S.-S. Chern in Berkeley (1963) and speaker of the ICM1978 in Helsinki, his name is known for his many contributions to Riemannian manifolds, topology of manifolds, rigidity and convexity of isometric immersions, minimal surfaces, stability of hypersurfaces, isoperimetric problems, minimal submanifolds of spheres, and manifolds of constant mean curvature and vanishing scalar curvature. His influence is also felt through his textbooks translated into many languages and used in courses from universities such as Harvard and Columbia, and his students that include Celso Costa, Marcos Dajczer and Keti Tenenblat.

The (tentative) deadline for the submission of manuscripts is September 15th, 2019. Submission is through the journal website. The issue will most likely appear in 2020.

We are looking forward to receiving your contributions!
