9o. EBEB

9th Bayesian Brazilian Meeting

Feb, 24-27, 2008

Maresias Beach Hotel is located in the nice beach of Maresias, 169 km far from São Paulo and 375 km far from Rio de Janeiro. Maresias is one of the 33 beaches from São Sebastião, with good waves which are appreciated for surfers. São Sebastião is located in the North Coast of São Paulo State, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Serra do Mar, where the dominant vegetation is the Atlantic Forest, an area with one of the highest biodiversity levels on the planet. Nowadays, only 7% of the original forest is preserved. Projects such as SOS Mata Atlântica work to help the preservation of the fauna and flora of the region. Many ecological trails can be accessed to appreciate this rich environment.

Before the Portuguese colonization, the area of São Sebastião was occupied by natives Tubinambás in the north and by natives Tupiniquis in the south. The Boiçucanga Mountain – 30 km to the South – was a natural division between these two groups of natives.
