How to Conduct Academic Research
1. Define the Topic and Keywords
Before searching for scientific papers, it is important to clearly define
the research topic. Then identify keywords that best represent the problem
being investigated.
Whenever possible, use keywords in English, since most scientific literature
is published in this language.
2. Academic Research Platforms
3. Open Access Databases
4. Using Citations
When you find a relevant paper, also check the papers cited by it and
the works that cite it. This helps expand the literature review efficiently.
5. Organizing References
- Zotero – reference management
- Mendeley – article organization
How to Read Scientific Papers
Reading scientific papers should be done strategically.
An efficient approach consists of two stages.
First Reading (Overview)
- Read the abstract
- Read the introduction
- Read the conclusion
Second Reading (Detailed Analysis)
- Analyze the methodology
- Study the results
- Compare with related work
Evaluating the Paper
- Relevance to the research problem
- Quality of the methodology
- Number of citations
How to Write a Scientific Paper
Scientific writing should be clear, objective, and evidence-based.
Typical Structure of a Paper
- Abstract
- Introduction
- Related Work
- Methodology
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusion
Important Tips
- Use short and clear sentences
- Avoid vague statements
- Present quantitative results whenever possible
- Use figures and tables when appropriate
Paper Revision
Before submission, carefully review the manuscript and verify that
the paper follows the guidelines of the conference or journal.
