Dear Enrico,

Please, allow me for a couple of announcements related to the Statistical Modelling Society activities that were either forgotten in my last e-mail at the beginning of January or newly arose since then.

Membership 2014
---------------
If you plan to attend 2014 IWSM in Goettingen, you automatically renew your membership to the Society by registering at the conference. Nevertheless, it may happen that you cannot attend this year IWSM but you want to remain a member of the Society also in 2014. In this case, please, visit the "Join the Society" link at www.statmod.org (http://www.statmod.org/cgi-bin/join.pl) where you can easily renew your membership for 2014 (which also grants you an access to the "Members Only" area till July 2015).

Extended deadline for IWSM 2014
-------------------------------
If you are still hesitating whether you should actively participate the 2014 IWSM in Goettingen and feel that you need some more time to prepare your abstract then I have a very good news for you. Deadline for abstract submissions of both oral and poster presentations was just extended till

    FEBRUARY 10!

The same deadline now holds also for submission of applications for student travel grants. For more information, go to

    www.uni-goettingen.de/iwsm2014

Briefly, the 29th IWSM will be hosted by the Centre for Statistics of the Georg-August-Universitaet Goettingen (Germany) from July 14-18, 2014. As in previous years, the workshop will bring together a wide variety of international researchers, coming from all over the world and featuring different levels of experience, to encourage discussion and interchange between junior and senior scientists.

Confirmed *invited speakers* are

* Antoine de Falguerolles (Universite de Toulouse, France)
* Alejandro Jara (Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, Chile)
* Sophia Rabe-Hesketh (University of California, Berkeley, USA)
* Gerhard Tutz (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet Muenchen, Germany)
* Simon Wood (University of Bath, UK)

As usual, the workshop will be preceded by the short course, this year on "Boosting for statistical modelling" by Benjamin Hofner, Andreas Mayr and Matthias Schmid (Friedrich-Alexander-Universitaet Erlangen-Nuernberg, Germany) on July 13, 2014.

In order to submit abstracts and to register for the conference, please visit https://www.conftool.com/iwsm2014/ and create an account as a first step. You are kindly requested to use the LaTeX template for writing abstracts, which you can download from www.uni-goettingen.de/en/472457.html.

I hope to see you all in Goetingen,
Arnost Komarek
