Parque da Redenção (Redemption Park)

This park is the largest green area of Porto Alegre, with almost 40ha of trees, gardens and lawns. It also has several sport fields, playgrounds, small lakes, a mini-zoo and a theme park.

The park began its story as a cattle storage and a rest place for travelers in the middle of the 19th century. From 1935 on, after an exposition celebrating the first hundreth years of the Farroupilha Revolution, it became closer to the way it looks today.
