PrÃmio Francisco Aranda Ordaz - Clapem 2014



FRANCISCO ARANDA ORDAZ AWARD

The LARC-SLAPEM organizes, every two/three years, a prize to honor the
memory of Francisco Aranda-Ordaz, a distinguished young Mexican
statistician who died tragically in 1991. Sponsored by the Bernoulli
Society, the Francisco Aranda-Ordaz Award is bestowed for one thesis
in Probability and one thesis in Statistics written by students from
Latin America, regardless of the country of the university offering
the degree, or by students from other nationalities who received the
degree from a Latin American university. The winners are invited to
present their works at the CLAPEM meeting.
Theses defended during the period of October, 2011 to April, 2014 are
eligible for consideration in this edition of the Award.
A complete submission consists of:
â The complete dissertation, submitted in electronic form.
â The official university final exam form, signed by the student's doctoral committee or by other university officials, as appropriate. 
â A letter from the thesis advisor stating that he/she agrees to
submit the dissertation for consideration of the award committee.
The official languages of the Award are Spanish, Portuguese, English
and French. The Committee will consider other languages as an exception.
The Award Committee for 2011-2014 is coordinated by RamsÃs H. Mena
(chair). The Committee will notify the award winners by July 31, 2014.
Awardees will be invited to attend the CLAPEM to be held in Cartagena
de Indias, Colombia, in September 22 - 26, 2014 to present their work
in a Special Invited Session. The applicants will be notified by July
the 31st 2014.
Nominations should be sent in electronic form to RamsÃs H. Mena
(ramses at sigma.iimas.unam.mx).
Deadline for submission of nominations is May 10, 2014. No exceptions
will be made.

La sociedad Latino Americana de Probabilidad y EstadÃstica MatemÃtica
promueve cada dos a tres aÃos el certamen a la tesis de Doctorado
Francisco Aranda-Ordaz, creado para honrar la memoria de un
distinguido y joven colega mexicano, fallecido trÃgicamente en 1991.
De acuerdo con el Reglamento para otorgar el Premio Francisco
Aranda-Ordaz, hacemos una cordial invitaciÃn a todos los interesados
en participar, para que envÃen sus tesis doctorales. Pueden participar
en Ãl las tesis doctorales en probabilidad o EstadÃstica realizadas
por estudiantes originarios de AmÃrica Latina, sin tomar en cuenta la nacionalidad de la Universidad que haya expedido el tÃtulo doctoral o estudiantes de cualquier nacionalidad con tÃtulo en una universidad 
latinoamericana. A tÃtulo de ejemplo, pueden tanto postular un
latinoamericano doctorado en Europa como un europeo doctorado en
AmÃrica Latina.
En esta ediciÃn del certamen se considerarÃn tesis defendidas a partir
del octubre de 2011 hasta abril de 2014.
DeberÃn enviar para la evaluaciÃn:
â Una copia de la tesis por correo electrÃnico.
â Copia del Acta de PresentaciÃn del Examen a partir del mes de
octubre 2011 al mes de abril de 2014.
â Carta del asesor de la tesis en la que expresa que està de acuerdo
con que se someta a concurso la tesis.
Las lenguas oficiales del certamen son: espaÃol, portuguÃs, inglÃs y
francÃs. Pueden considerarse excepcionalmente tesis redactadas en
otras lenguas. El jurado para el periodo 2011-2014 està coordinado por
RamsÃs H Mena. El Jurado designarà la mejor tesis en Probabilidad y la
mejor tesis en EstadÃstica, y los dos colegas distinguidos presentarÃn
una conferencia especial invitada en al XII CLAPEM (Congreso Latino
Americano de Probabilidad y EstadÃstica MatemÃtica), que se llevarà a
cabo en Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, entre el 22 y el 26 de
septiembre de 2014. Los ganadores serÃn notificados a mÃs tardar el 31
de Julio de 2014.
Las nominaciones deber ser enviadas por vÃa electrÃnica a Ramses H.
Mena (ramses at sigma.iimas.unam.mx).
La fecha lÃmite para la recepciÃn de trabajos es el 10 de mayo de
2014, sin excepciÃn.
