First Brazilian on board: IME-USP Professor Joins IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors

After the high-level election process, the Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science of IME, Alfredo Goldman, has been elected for the Board of Governors of the IEEE Computer Society (BOG). He was the third highest vote-getter among 16 other highly qualified candidates. 

As the first Brazilian to join the prestigious Board of Governors, Professor Alfredo Goldman will represent Latin America and join a diverse group of prominent computer science researchers and industry professionals.This election recognizes the researcher’s international contributions, which include leading a High Performance Computing (HPC) research project involving several Brazilian universities, mainly sponsored by the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP).

The materials for Professor Alfredo’s application are available online. On the site, Goldman describes his reasons for being elected to the position. It also includes his biography, publications, awards, accomplishments, and a variety of testimonials from colleagues and partners who were a part of his career. 

The Board of Governors continually leads the effort to sustain relevant discussions and promote strategic means to improve community-wide action. In 2025-27, they will do so for the vast group of at least 375,000 members of the IEEE Computer Society.
