State Space Models in Actuarial Science

This paper displays state space modelling in two areas of actuarial work: forecasting insurance liabilities and demographic projection. In both cases the state space model is found to be a convenient template to tackle the problem of forecasting without having to reinvent the applicable forecasting technology. Applications illustrate the procedures.
