OBJECTIVES

The Brazilian Statistical Association (ABE) and the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo, with the support of the IMECC, University of Campinas and StatSoft, announce the joint meeting "1st Conference on Applied Probability and Statistical Methods" and "7th Conference on Multivariate Distributions with Applications" (as continuation of former six editions in Rome (1990), Seattle (1993), Prague (1996), Barcelona (2000), Quebec (2004) and Tartu (2007)), to be held August 8-13, 2010, at Maresias Beach Hotel in Maresias, SP. The conference venue is located at the kilometer 154 on the Rio-Santos highway (about 180 km from São Paulo and 370 km from Rio de Janeiro).

The joint meeting aims at providing a forum for the presentation of state-of-the art research in the development, implementation of multivariate distributions and their real-world applications, as well as promoting discussion and interchange between junior and senior scientists. The joint meeting is open to both academic and non-academic communities and is specifically designed to contribute to fostering the cooperation between practitioners and theoreticians in the field.

Some selected papers will be invited for publication in a special issue of the Brazilian Journal of Probability and Statistics and Communication in Statistics: Theory and Methods.
