For a long time I postponed designing my WEB page because I
could not decide what kind of personal information (and how much)
I would like to make available for an abstract WWW reader. It
seems to me that if someone is curious about my life or ideas,
the best approach would be just send me e-mail or stop by for chatting!
But I have had myself a great time visiting pages from my friends and from
strangers, so I decided to start putting information here without
reflecting too much about it...

Background
- I was born in
São Paulo, Brazil, for me a huge ugly complex
wonderful city. My parents are from Bahia, and I still have many relatives
in the Northeast. It is a big clan: dozens of very close uncles and
cousins; I believe I know more than a hundred relatives by name. Believe
me, you learn a lot of things from having such a family life.
Movies
- I love to go to the movies. It sounds like a silly cliche, but I do
feel transported to other place and time. I used to be able to have a
wonderful time watching any kind of movie, but as I get older I have less
patience with the usual Hollywood flicks, specially the fast paced
adventure blockbusters ... but I watch them anyway.
Books
- Bookstores have a very special atmosphere; being sorrounded by
books has a very relaxing effect on me. The thing about living in
Atlanta/United States that I miss the most is how easy it was to spend
Saturday evenings and Sundays afternoons surrounded by books, magazines
and good coffee.
My "pain" has been alleviated by the sad news that Oxford Bookstore
has closed :-( ...
Border's and Barney and Nobles' are fun too, but
independent bookstores have a very special charm. For a wonderful
feminist/alternative experience, visit Charis Bookstore. I hope to be able to
add lots of pointers to good bookstores in São Paulo in the future. Actually,
last year the "Ática Shopping Cultural" has opened, and it is a pleasant
place that I visit religiously, but it is also too crowded. Livraria
Cultura has been remodeling, and it bacame a very nice place
to relax, read and buy books.
In the shopping malls, it is worth it to visit Saraiva Megastores.

People in my life
- I prefer to think that my
friendships are treasures far too precious to be exposed in the
WEB.
All I can say is that writing this section makes me smile and
really warm inside. And makes me want to stop editing this page so I
can send e-mail, call, and hug people I care deeply about.
