THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
The Baccalaureate in Computer Science of IME-USP is one of the most traditional and competitive courses of Computer Science in Brazil. Since its first class (1974) more than a thousand students have completed the course. Along the course, the student not only learns the "how" and "why" of programming, but also gets in touch with the plenty of areas related to Computer Science specific subjects. The scientific initiation program (also known as 'junior researcher') allows the interested students to work directly in the development of projects and/or theories in any of the research areas of the department.
Students are also stimulated to organize themselves in groups and take part on international programming contests. In the late competitions, these groups have put up very good performances.
The course lasts four years, and within this period, the department intends to provide its student with not only a consistent basis but also a flexible and versatile ranking of subjects that enables him to play efficiently in any branch of computation.
There are offered 50 vacancies each year, and the selection among the candidates is made by an exam called FUVEST.
