| Abstract: We will
discuss the geometry of isometric groups action and its quotient, with
applications to manifolds with positive or non-negative sectional
curvature. Known examples and obstructions to positive curvature will
be discussed as well. Emphasis will be place on deformations of
metrics, in particular so called Cheeger deformations. Finally we will
discuss polar actions, where one has a submanifold orthogonal to the
orbits, and apply their structure in the context of positive curvature.
