Subject: new R package for large surveys

I thought people on this list might be interested: I am developing an
R package for analyzing large surveys on modest computers, with the
primary motivation being the American Community Survey, but with
things like the Nationwide Inpatient Sample and even MEPS or
multi-year NHIS analyses being other applications. The package uses
the MonetDB column-store database for much of its backend computation,
so is not limited by available computer memory. That does mean
installation takes more expertise or a cooperative IT department.

The initial version is out now. It is somewhat limited in scope,
especially in defining new variables, but it should provide enough
analyses for you to see if future versions will be useful:

Thanks to Anthony Damico for testing some prototypes and for
persuading me that the computational programs with ACS analyses in R
couldn't just be left to Moore's Law.
